Azad Surin More Pictures Azad Surin
Purebred Caspian 2008 colt
Nickname "Ed"
Ancient Persian translation Azad = noble, free; Surin = brave, war-like

Comments Ed has an outgoing personality and great curiosity. He was incredibly leggy at birth and is having a growth spurt now, so we expect him to mature at the upper end of the Caspian range. He’s living with the other non-breeding stallions at Maefield, playing rough boy-games with Tadan and learning the finer points of stallion manners from Dadan.

Azad Ferozbanu More Pictures Azad Ferozbanu

Dam Kristull Jewel of the Sea, 2004 purebred Caspian mare at Maefield, bay gone grey

Comments Louise’s name and nickname honor the re-discoverer of the Caspian breed- read more on the Caspian Horse page. She was foaled on the day of Louise Firouz’ memorial service in Iran. Louise is very attentive and inquisitive. She has her dam’s pretty face and beautiful eyes. Louise is fast, agile, and would make an excellent sporthorse. As a broodmare prospect, Louise could produce foals of a variety of coat colors. She has great potential for any task that awaits her.

Comments Tishtar (“angel of rain”) was foaled in the wettest April on record in Missouri. She has a beautiful floating trot and very refined head. She has the conformation and athletic ability to be a top performance horse and should excell at jumping.

Azad Benafsha More Pictures Azad Benafsha
Purebred Caspian 2009 filly
Nickname "Violet"
Ancient Persian translation Azad = noble, free; Benafsha = angel of rain
Registration CHSA purebred registration number 0370
Color, markings Bay, no white
Coat color genes E? Aa gg
Height expected mature height 12.0 hands (48” or 122 cm)
Date of birth 9 August 2009
Sire Marida Dadan, 1995 purebred Caspian stallion at Maefield Farm, bay with star
Dam Kristull Obsidian, 2003 purebred Caspian mare at Maefield Farm, black with snip
Progeny None
Comments Violet is super friendly and loves attention. Her conformation is great, with a very refined head like both her parents. Due to her similar coloring, she is poised to become a carbon copy of her handsome sire. While elegant and refined in appearance, she also has the famed toughness of the Caspian. She grew an incredibly thick coat for her first winter and looked like a wooly baby bison. But she stayed warm and happy on our below zero days. Violet is a personable, attractive, and intelligent youngster with great prospects for a performance career.

Azad Zirak More Pictures Azad Zirak
Purebred Caspian 2010 Colt
Nickname "Rick"
Ancient Persian translation Azad = noble, free; Zirak = intelligent, wise
Registration CHSA purebred registration number pending
Color, markings Dark bay/brown going grey, no white
Coat color genes E? A? Gg
Height expected mature height 12.2 hands (50” or 127 cm)

Sire Eastern Jehani, purebred 1997 Caspian stallion at Maefield Farm, bay gone grey
Dam Kristull Phillee, 2003 purebred Caspian mare at Maefield; bay going grey
Progeny None
Comments Rick is a super cutie—he’s well-proportioned and has a nice head. The mix of white hairs around his eyes and muzzle indicate that he will go grey, probably much faster than his mom and older half-sister Tishtar. But like Tish, Rick should be an elegant mover and very athletic.

Azad Lilya More Pictures Azad Lilya
Purebred Caspian 2010 filly
Nickname "Lilly"
Ancient Persian translation Azad = noble, free; Lilya = dark night
Registration CHSA purebred registration number pending
Color, markings Dark bay/brown going grey, star, LH white heel
Coat color genes E? A? Gg
Height expected mature height 12 hands (48” or 122 cm)
Date of birth 18 April 2010
Sire Eastern Jehani, purebred 1997 Caspian stallion at Maefield Farm, bay gone grey
Dam Kristull Daniska Top Lady, 2003 purebred Caspian mare at Maefield Farm, bay gone grey
Progeny None
Comments Lilly is a real crowd pleaser. She does laps in the corral at a full gallop, weaving in and out of the various pens and stalls to entertain herself. Fortunately, her mom and the other mares are accepting of her wilder antics. And when she slows down, Lilly is also the most outgoing of the 3 foals. She teams up with Violet to supervise corral cleanup and has even learned to push the wheelbarrow—a little bit.

Azad Hutan More Pictures Azad Hutan
Half Caspian 2010 colt
Nickname "Hank"
Ancient Persian translation Azad = noble, free; Hutan = well-bodied
Registration CHSA partbred registration number pending
Color, markings Bay going grey, blaze, LH sock
Coat color genes Ee A? Gg
Height expected mature height 13.2 hands (54” or 137 cm)
Date of birth 7 May 2010
Sire Eastern Jehani, purebred 1997 Caspian stallion at Maefield Farm, bay gone grey
Dam Know Bunny Knows, 2003 Appendix Quarter Horse (mostly TB) mare at Maefield Farm, chestnut with blaze and 2 hind socks. Bunny’s sire (Knowtorious Son) is a fabulous jumper. See 2 photos of Bunny at the bottom of the center column of her sire’s page at http://www.freshstartfarm.com/id14.html
Progeny None
Comments As our first partbred, Hank demonstrates how the Caspian influence shines through in a cross. He is well-conformed, inquisitive, and a great mover. At 2 days of age, Hank was sauntering around other horses on his own, despite his anxious maiden mom’s attempts to sequester him from the herd. During the daily pasture turnout of the mares and foals, Hank literally runs circles around Bunny. We expect Hank to be a fabulous medium-sized sport pony.
